Your 10 Minute Business Presentation
The purpose of the 10 minute presentation is for each member to expand on their elevator speech allowing for a more in depth example of how their business works and what a good referral would be for them. Each week a different member will be given the opportunity to present with advanced notice. As time management is the key to success with any meeting or presentation the speaker will be given 8 minutes on the time clock and a further 2 minutes to conclude their presentation ensuring they have covered their business and request referrals.
It is important to present only the information about your business that you are representing within the group and not to expand into other areas where it will not encourage direct referrals to be generated. For example if you are representing the group as a realtor but also have a health product interest or franchise don’t mention it as it will distract the group away from your principle referral.
The chair person on the meeting will announce the presenter and advise the team that questions will be taken at the end of the presentation. The presenter will need to provide and bring to the meeting a door prize or gift certificate to the value of $20 to be presented to a member at the end of the meeting.
- Plan & Prepare your draft script and make sure you do not get to technical or make it over complicated that you need to explain.
- Be personable, relax and relate to personable experiences if you can to demonstrate any points in your topics.
- Practice your presentation against a time clock to ensure to move gently through your topics without missing or rushing important information.
- Produce hand outs with a more in depth detail of each topic that you are presenting so your group can take it away with them and pass onto others.
- Don’t read a script; make a bullet point list from the same topic sheet you hand out to the group. Put time stops on your bullet sheet so you know when you should be moving on or slowing down to make the most of your time.
- If you have samples to bring and pass around, do so at the very start of your presentation so they have enough time to get around the whole group.
- Keep eye contact with the group members all around you and not just in front. Standing back slightly from the group can assist this.
- If someone asks you a question that you are not sure of don’t bluff it, just say you don’t have the full information available and you will further clarify the answer for them and get back to them later today.
- Answer any questions briefly and don’t use it to further expand your presentation, offer full answers through setting up a business meeting with them after the group meeting.
- Remember time stands still for no one and if you run over to long in your presentation you will disrupt the time management of the meeting and all the members with the own business schedules. If you run out of time and have not asked for your referrals you have lost out.
After the meeting has finished make sure you don’t rush off as members may have additional questions for you to answer or clarify or even pass you a qualified referral.
